A controversial off-licence which attracted 2,000 complaints when it opened has been refused permission to sell alcohol until 2am.

Finsbury Supermarket, which trades as Finsbury Express Food and Wine, in Seven Sisters Road, Finsbury Park, was given an alcohol licence in December, despite a huge outcry from the local Muslim Community.

It is situated next to the Muslim Welfare House complex, which has a mosque on site. Many members of the congregation signed a petition against the move.

Last week, the store applied to increase the hours of the licence from 11pm to 2am, but the application was turned down by an Islington Council licensing committee.
