THIEVES have left a council estate without television or phone access for a week by stealing all of the copper cable that supplies their aerials.

The majority of residents in Tudor Court, in King Henry’s Walk, off Balls Pond Road, have had no use of their telephones and TVs since the theft in the early hours of January 10.

Gina Boreham, who has lived on the estate for 10 years, said: “This was a nasty and thoughtless crime. For the sake of a couple of pounds they have caused a lot of trouble for a lot of people. Every bit of cable that they could get their hands on they took. It is a very nice estate and a lovely place to live. I want the people who did this to realise the damage that they have caused. They should be ashamed of themselves.”

Tudor Court residents must now wait for the cables to be replaced by the estate’s management before they can have their full phone and television services restored.

A spokesman for Homes for Islington said: “We are sorry residents are unable to receive TV services due to this theft. We have a quote for the replacement of the stolen cable and are currently working with our contractor to install it as soon as possible.”
