Farringdon superclub Fabric will begin its appeal against Islington Council’s closure decision at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court next month.
The hearing will take place on Monday, November 28. It comes after the council licensing committee shut the club over two drug deaths in June and August. Ryan Browne and Jack Crossley, both 18, died after overdosing on MDMA taken in the club.
Co-founder Cameron Leslie accused police during the licensing meeting of carrying out a “pre-meditated exercise” against the club, in Charterhouse Street. After an undercover investigation, Sgt Aaron Barnes had claimed substance abuse was rife.
As of 3pm, a fundraising campaign to pay for the club’s legal action had reached £268,000. Managing director Gary Kilbey said “industry heavyweight” Philip Kolvin QC will head the case.
Of the fundraising, for which Fabric has released transparency statements, Mr Kilbey added: “Words cannot express how humbled we all are at the overwhelming support.”
