A drug dealer has been sent back to prison after being caught flying to the UK from Spain on a false passport.
Matthew Whaley, 41, originally from Holloway in London, was detained by the National Crime Agency at Birmingham Airport last month.
He had got his hands on a genuine British passport under the name Kevin Benson but National Crime Agency (NCA) officers working on a different investigation had discovered it was false and blacklisted it.
Whaley had been jailed for 18 years in 2005 for conspiring to supply 37 kilos of cocaine, and was released on license after serving nine years.
Following his arrest he was sent back to jail to complete the remaining nine years, but at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday he was sentenced to a further two years for possessing a false identity document.
The NCA’s Dawn Cartwright said: “Matthew Whaley thought he could move in and out of the UK undetected using this fraudulent obtained passport, but the diligence of our investigators ensured he was stopped in his tracks and put back in prison.”
