Hundreds of people paid their respects to the borough’s war dead on Saturday

Veterans, reservists, cadets, councillors and members of the public headed to Islington Green War Memorial as it was officially reopened to the public after much-needed renovation work.

After the march and the remembrance ceremony, visitors enjoyed live music and a picnic in the Islington High Street park.

Bupesh Thapa, who helped organise the day on behalf of Islington Council and Islington Veterans’ Association, said: “It all went really well and everything went to plan.

“We had about 1,000 on the day and even though we finished a bit early due the rain there were still plenty of people there at the end.”
