Three men who robbed their victim of £200 in Islington, before going to McDonald’s, have been sentenced.
At around 3am on Sunday, May 11 last year, two men aged 29 and 30 were walking through the N1 Centre towards Upper Street after a night out.
They were approached by Liam O’Brien, Kadeem Simon-Brown and Osei Junior Kwabena Owusu-Sekyere, who challenged the men about throwing water over them. They protested their innocence.
O’Brien then punched one of the men in the face, while Simon-Brown intimated that he had a knife.
They escorted one of the victims to a cash machine. He withdrew £100 but O’Brien and Simon-Brown then took his card and PIN number and withdrew another £100. They then made several unsuccessful attempts to withdraw a further £50, but the machine eventually kept the card.
O’Brien, Simon-Brown and Owusu-Sekyere walked off towards McDonald’s, in Chapel Market. Police were called and the three men were arrested on suspicion of robbery.
On Friday, O’Brien, 21, of Haberdasher Street, Shoreditch, was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment while Simon-Brown, 21, of Collier Street, Barnsbury, was jailed for a year.

Owusu-Sekyere, 20, also of Collier Street, was handed a one-year suspended prison sentence, a 12-week night-time curfew and ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
Simon-Brown pleaded guilty at Blackfriars Crown Court on April 29, while O’Brien and Owusu-Sekyere were found guilty on October 1.
Det Cons Jose Lagares said: “O’Brien and Owusu-Sekyere refused to accept responsibility for their actions throughout their trial.
“Both victims had to testify against them at court. The sentences handed down should send a clear message that no one is above the law.
“Police in Islington are committed to tackling robberies and we will always support victims through the entire process.”
