A pensioner from Islington has admitted his role in the Hatton Garden Easter raid which saw jewellery worth more than £10million stolen.
John Collins, 74, of Bletsoe Walk is one of four men who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to burgle at Woolwich Crown Court today.
The raid over the Easter weekend saw thieves break into the vault in London’s diamond district, after using a drill to bore a hole 20in deep into the vault wall.
Police believe they got into the building through a communal entrance before disabling the lift so they could climb down the shaft to the basement.
Daniel Jones, 58, of Park Avenue, Enfield, Terry Perkins, 67, of Heene Road, Enfield, and Brian Reader, 76, of Dartford Road, Dartford also pleaded guilty.
All four men also faced a charge of conspiracy to convert or transfer criminal property, but in light of their guilty pleas in relation to the conspiracy to burgle, the prosecution has dropped the charge.
The men will be sentenced at a later date.
Three other men deny the charge and two are yet to enter pleas.
