A serial burglar has been jailed for breaking into homes and attacking a man with a chair.

Jason Goldberg carried out his crime spree between November 2016 and January in Hornsey Rise, Stroud Green and Wood Green, Blackfriars Crown Court heard.

Goldberg first struck on November 13 when he broke into a home in Ranelagh Road, Wood Green, taking cash, computers, perfume and jewellery.

He struck again in Crouch Hill, Stroud Green, on December 28 after smashing a kitchen window to get in to the house before taking money and another computer while the owners were away celebrating Christmas.

He carried out his last offence at a house in Hazellville Road, Hornsey Rise, on January 7.

Goldberg, of no fixed abode, forced his way in and was in the process of taking cash, credit cards and computers when he was discovered by a man at the property.

The occupant challenged Goldberg who, in response, punched and hit him with a chair before fleeing from the property.

Detectives investigating the case identified the 39-year-old as their prime suspect before arresting him in Finsbury Park on May 3.

During his arrest he was found with gloves, a bag of screwdrivers and a woolly hat, police said.

Goldberg was charged and pleaded guilty to the two offences in Ranelagh Road and Crouch Hill. During Monday’s hearing he also pleaded guilty to the Hazelville Road burglary.

He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for the Hornsey Rise burglary and 29 months for each of the two remaining offences.

Goldberg’s sentences will run concurrently.

During sentencing, the judge heard Goldberg already had nine previous convictions for burglary and attempted burglary.

Det Con Debbie Barge, who led the investigation, said: “Goldberg was a prolific offender who brought misery and insecurity to those whose homes he targeted.

“He will now spend a significant amount of time behind bars.”
