A police officer who arrested Timchang Nandap two months before he stabbed Jeroen Ensink to death in Holloway has said he showed no signs of mental illness.
Today, the seventh day of the inquest into Jeroen’s death at St Pancras Coroner’s Court, jurors heard Nandap was arrested in October 2015 after arriving at Heathrow Airport on a flight. It was related to an incident in May that year, where police held him for knife possession.
Sgt David Collins, who took Nandap into custody at Heathrow police station, said: “If I thought there was any slight possible reason he would have mental health problems, I would have called the doctor. I’ve done that on other occasions. There was nothing that stood out about his behaviour or health at all.”
Nandap, who suffered paranoid schizophrenia, stabbed 41-year-old Jeroen to death outside his home in Hilldrop Crescent in December 2015. He was sentenced to an indefinite period in a mental health hospital in October 2016.
