Detectives investigating the murder of Jonathon “JJ” McPhillips have released this CCTV footage in the hope of encouraging witnesses to come forward.

JJ was stabbed in the early hours of Saturday February 25 and died the following Wednesday.

Seven people have been arrested in connection with the murder. All have been bailed until August.

The CCTV footage shows JJ colliding with an innocent bystander as he attempts to escape from a melee, with youngsters running in all directions down Upper Street – some waving knives.

Officers are want to speak to the bystander, who has never been identified. His identity has been protected in the video, but cops hope he will see the footage and recognise himself. Police say his information could prove vital.
