A man and a 16-year-old boy have been arrested following the fatal shooting of Nigerian prince Joseph Burke-Monerville.

The 23-year-old and the teenager were arrested in Hackney yesterday and have both been bailed until September - the total number of arrests in connection with the killing now stands at nine.

Mr Burke Monerville, from Canonbury, was shot in the head whilst in a car with his identical twin and older brothers in Hindrey Road, Clapton, in February.

The brothers had stopped at the shop after going to the gym when two masked men approached them and asked if they were form the nearby Pembury Estate before firing three shots into the car.

Joseph was hit in the head, older brother David was hit in the arm and a bullet grazed Joseph’s twin Jonathan. The gunmen ran away and despite a bullet in his arm David drove until they found a police car.

Joseph later died in hospital from his wounds.

Last week a re-enactment of the slaying was shown on BBC TV programmed Crimewatch, along with a heartfelt plea from the family and the offer of a £20,000 reward from police for anyone with information leading to Mr Burke-Monerville’s killers.

It is not known whether these new arrests are a result of the TV programme.

Police are still hunting the men they believe fired the shots - the first suspect is black, the second as light-skinned – possibly of Asian or Turkish appearance.

Both were wearing dark hooded tops, with bandanas covering their faces.

On May 2 police arrested an 18, 19 and 25-year-old; on 9 May two teenagers, 17 and 19, were arrested and on May 10 two 24-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of murder.

All have since been released on police bail pending further enquiries
