Islington police borough commander Mike Wise has urged any witnesses to vandalism and looting in the area to come forward.

He said: “The courage, resilience and leadership shown by the men and women on the ground, facing the violence, are there for the world to see.

“Those involved in criminality should be under no illusion that we will pursue them. We have a team working during the night examining CCTV images. We will follow up evidence in the coming days in order to bring anyone else responsible for criminal acts to justice.

“Officers and staff continue to work long hours at short notice in very challenging circumstances. We continue to have the plans and resources in place to respond to any further disorder. We are working closely with communities, the Independent Advisory Group and Islington Council to keep Islington safe and assess the impact of the disorder.”

Officers from Operation Withern are investigating the disorder and violence in Islington and other parts of London. Anyone with information should call the Major Investigation Team on 020 8345 4142 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
