A 47-year-old man caught with a kitchen knife at Finsbury Park station after getting into an argument has been jailed for four months.

Gary Roper, of Lausanne Road, Hornsey, was seen intoxicated at the front entrance to the station by British Transport Police officers. He was arguing with a woman, also said to be intoxicated, when cops intervened and found the weapon.

He admitted possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and was sentenced at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court at the end of July.

A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers responded swiftly when they discovered Roper was in possession of a knife. Anyone found to be carrying offensive weapons on the rail network will face swift action by the police and serious charges will result.

“Everyone has the right to go about their day without fear or intimidation of offensive weapons. We continue to work closely with other forces to bring these offenders to justice.”
