A man from Liverpool Road in Islington this morning appeared in court in connection with the Hatton Garden heist.
Michael Seed, 57, was arrested by police after a dawn raid at his flat on Tuesday.
He is alleged to be the last member of the gang – referred to as “Basil” – that ransacked 73 boxes at Hatton Garden Safe Deposit after using a drill to bore a hole into the vault wall.
He was charged by the Met last night and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this morning. He is accused of conspiracy to burgle and conspiracy to conceal or disguise criminal property.
The grey-haired suspect, wearing jeans and a blue and white checked shirt under a green jacket, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and that he is English.
He is yet to enter any pleas and was remanded in custody. Seed will next appear at Woolwich Crown Court on April 26.
The raid, which happened in April 2015, is one of the most notorious burglaries in UK history. It happened just outside the Islington border, to the west of Farringdon station, and valuables worth an estimated £13.7million. So far, nine people, most elderly, have been convicted.
