Officers are trying to track down two thugs who smashed a pedestrian in the face with a metal object breaking his jaw.

Detectives this week launched an appeal for help from anyone who saw the unprovoked attack, which took place in broad daylight on Friday September 28 at about 3pm.

The victim, a man aged 22, was walking along an alleyway between Cumberland Gardens and Lloyd Square, Finsbury, when two men approached from behind, started punching him, and then whacked him in the face with what police believe was a metal object.

The attackers then fled the scene, possibly in a car, while the victim was taken to hospital with a broken jaw.

Det Con Jason Cole, the investigating officer, said: “A young man going about his business was brutally assaulted during a sustained and unprovoked attack, in broad daylight, on a busy pedestrian walk through. Someone must have witnessed this incident and I appeal to them to come forward and speak to police in confidence.”

The first suspect was a stocky black man, about 6ft 3ins tall and aged about 25, and had a distinctive deep voice. The second was shorter and described as a lighter skinned black male.
