Man on gun and drugs charges after Canonbury raid

A MAN has been charged with possession of a loaded firearm and possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply following a raid on a property in one of Islington’s poshest streets.

Mervyn Mark, 22, of Canonbury Grove, Canonbury, appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court on Wednesday (17) and was remanded in custody to appear at Blackfriars Crown Court next Thursday (25).

He was arrested when detectives from the Islington Proactive Crime Squad - with assistance from the Safer Neighbourhoods Taskforce - carried out a drugs warrant at his home address on Monday.

Two women, aged 19 and 57, were also arrested and remain on police bail pending further investigations.
