A haul of weapons, cash and drugs were found by police as they carried out a haul of a Clerkenwell park.

Officers found a foldable baton, two claw hammers, four screwdrivers, metals bars, wooden planks and chains as they searched Spa Fields, in Northampton Road.

Eight wraps of cocaine and 180 in cash were also discovered hidden amongst plants in the area in the operation on August 15.

In related sweeps, police found a knife in Milner Square, Islington and two knives and a knuckle duster in Moreland Mews, Finsbury.

No arrests were made during the operations.

Sergeant Brian Quail from Clerkenwell Safer Neighbourhoods team said: “These types of operations are essential to reduce the likelihood of violent crime. Some of the things we found were hidden for future criminality as were the class A drugs and cash. All the Safer Neighbourhoods teams are keen to work together to make their wards and Islington safer for residents, businesses and visitors.”

Chief Inspector Paula Light, in charge of patrol and operations, said: “We have made a determined effort to continue to robustly tackle crime in the borough. These weapons that the officers have found have now been taken off the streets.
