A resident has slammed police for scrapping the hunt for his limited edition 16,000 car just hours after it was reported stolen.
Steven Holgan’s Smart Roadstar RCR was stolen from outside his home in Osborne Road, Finsbury Park, in the early hours of Saturday, July 2.
The incident was reported to police the same morning.
But the following Wednesday (July 6) police sent a letter dated the day the car was stolen saying “it is unlikely that further significant evidence could be readily available and as a result we have closed the investigation”.
Mr Holgan, 27, a sales office manager, said: “I’m disgusted with the level of service they have shown in the attempts to find it.
“Did they even bother to check the local CCTV? I can’t believe there is nothing left the police can do.”
The Smart Roadstar is a rare limited edition design of which only 50 models were produced worldwide.
He continued: “It isn’t as though this is a regular car of which there are hundreds, it’s very distinctive. You would think there would be enough cameras in London to spot it. I’m sure you can understand our frustration as this car will be very difficult to replace.”
A spokeswoman for Haringey police, which is responsible for Osborne Road just over the border, said they carried out various checks and the car has now been put on the police national computer system.
If officers find the car they will immediately know it has been stolen.
She added: “Should further evidence come to light we will continue to investigate.”
