A teenager who stabbed a man with a sword has been locked up for 13 years.

Juliean Ballantyne, 19, twice thrust the 2ft blade into his victim’s body after chasing him to his home on September 23 last year.

He nearly killed the 23-year-old – who lost more than a pint of blood – before callously muttering “cool” to an accomplice and fleeing.

Last Monday he was sentenced to 11 years for grievous bodily harm and two years for attempting to pervert the course of justice at Blackfriars Crown Court.

Judge John Hillen said: “This was a cold-blooded attack with a lethal weapon on a young man in his home, with life-threatening consequences.”

Trouble flared when the victim walked past a group of about 15 youths on the Spa Green Estate, Finsbury, where he lives.

A row broke out when Ballantyne made eye contact and asked: “What are you looking at?”

Ballantyne, of Packington Square, Islington, eventually grabbed the sword and chased his victim through the streets.

Judge John Hillen said: “You baited your victim and when he would not engage with you, you drew out a sword.

“Having armed yourself with a lethal weapon, you and another followed the victim to his home.

“One of you kicked open the communal door and you pursued him up the stairs to his flat. When he slipped, you stabbed him.

“As he tried to escape, you thrust that sword into his body again. You left him to face a possible death.”

The victim, whom police requested not be named, was left in a life-threatening condition, with wounds to his chest and side.

He has since made a full recovery, but the ordeal has left deep psychological scars and he is now dependent on anti-depressants.

The court heard Ballantyne has been in and out of detention, including sentences for two robberies.

He pleaded guilty on the first day of trial, after first trying to get witnesses to miss the hearing.

He will remain on licence for the duration of his sentence.

Police are still hunting the second man.
