Police have launched a hunt for a doctor’s bicycle that was stolen when she stopped to help a crash victim.

Officers searching for psychiatrist Jennifer Perry’s bike and its thief issued an appeal for information this week – as she vowed the ordeal will not stop her being a Good Samaritan.

The Trek hybrid was snatched as she aided a man hurled from his motorbike in a collision with a pedestrian in Holloway Road, Upper Holloway, near the junction with Alexander Road on Friday, October 28.

Dr Perry, 26, who lives in Islington, had been cycling home from work when she spotted the man sprawled in the street, with a crowd gathered around.

She said: “I thought I had better get off to check he was alright. I leant over him and had my bike next to me on the ground, touching my leg.

“I checked him over and made sure he kept his head and neck still before paramedics arrived.

“Suddenly I felt my bike being lifted up, and when I looked up I saw a boy of about 16 racing off down Holloway Road on it. I chased him, but he was long gone.”

Dr Perry, who only bought the 340 bicycle two months ago, was told by another doctor at the scene that the thief had been standing in the crowd before he struck. The motorcyclist was not seriously hurt.

“It’s disappointing, but I think that boy is in the minority,” she said.

“I’m still glad I stopped. Everyone has been really nice about it and that makes up for it.”

It is not the first time she has leapt to the aid of a member of the public – she once stepped up when flight attendants called for a doctor – and despite what happened, she has no plans to stop now.

She added: “If it happened again, I would still stop. I couldn’t cycle past.”

Anyone with information on the suspect or the whereabouts of the bike should call Islington Police’s robbery squad on 020 7421 0250 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
