A street in Tony Blair’s old neighbourhood has been named as the quietest street in London.

Barnsbury Square, round the corner from the former PM’s old Richmond Crescent abode, can top in a survey of the capital’s most tranquil roads.

The research, commissioned by the London Bed Company, was carried out by 24 Acoustics, in St John Street, Finsbury, who used their own measurement data and other sources such as the London road noise map.

An investigation by the Gazette in 2011 revealed Hornsey Road, which connects Holloway to Hornsey Rise, and Caledonian Road, that runs from King’s Cross to Holloway, were the loudest streets in the borough with the most noise complaints.

Cllr Rakhia Ismail, Islington Council’s executive member for sustainability, said: “Given the high population density of our borough we remain concerned by the effect of noise on residents’ health and quality of life.

“Everyone needs a good night’s rest and its the job of our noise patrol to help residents whose sleep is being disturbed by barking dogs, faulty alarms and anti-social behaviour.”
