Two “professional criminals” have been jailed for 44 years for an attempted killing in a gang feud which saw a Newington Green man convicted of murder last year.

Christopher Annan and Tyrone Wright were hired by the “Hackney Turks” to assassinate Inan Eren of the “Tottenham Turks” as part of a long-running feud linked to five murders and several shootings since 2009.

They were convicted on Wednesday of the attempted murder of Eren in Forest Road, Enfield, on December 30 2012.

The botched “hit” took place just four months before Newington Green man Samuel Zerei helped masked gunman Jamie Marsh-Smith – nicknamed Freddy Krueger – murder the targeted victim’s cousin, Tottenham Turks gang lieutenant Zafer Eren.

Marsh-Smith, 23, of no fixed address, then tried to kill his accomplice Zerei, 22, of Hathersage Court, four days after the murder.

“Freddy” was also the gunman in the attempted murder of Inan Eren who was hit three times but survived.

Marsh-Smith and Zerei were sentenced to 38 years and 28 years respectively in July last year, as police offered a £30,000 reward for the names of the gang bosses who had ordered the murders.

Annan, 24, of Denham Road, Barnet, and Wright, 20 of Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, were both waiting in the car with Marsh-Smith on the night of the planned killing of Inan Eren.

Annan was sentenced to 24 years with an extended five years, while Wright was sentenced to 20 years following the retrial at the Old Bailey.

The court heard that on December 30 2012, Marsh-Smith, Annan and Wright lay in wait for Inan Eren as he returned to his home in Forest Road, Enfield. Marsh-smith approached from the middle of the road and fired at Inan. The first shot missed, hitting a window and showering his wife with glass. More shots were fired and Inan was hit in the arm, leg and stomach but was found by his wife and survived the attack.

The car believed to have been used for the getaway was later discovered on fire, not far from Marsh-Smith’s address. Items recovered from it indicated its use by Marsh-Smith, Annan and Wright.

Detective chief inspector Noel McHugh, the senior investigating officer from the homicide and serious crime command, said: “Annan and Wright conspired with Marsh-Smith and accepted a contract on Inan’s life. The sad reality being they wouldn’t even have been paid much money for their part in the attempt to murder him. They were motivated by money and had no dispute with their victim.

“The conviction of Annan and Wright means that the dangerous and violent criminal syndicate they were part of has now been sentenced to over 119 years in prison.”
