Crook befriended victim on bus then punched him until he collapsed

A “vicious” young thug who punched his victim in the face until he collapsed has been jailed for three years.

Carl O’Connor, 21, St Anne’s Road, Lower Edmonton, was sentenced at Blackfriars Crown Court on May 26 having previously pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and common assault

O’Connor had been travelling on a bus through Islington at aboput 2.15am on December 31 when started talking to antohre passenger.

They both got off the bus and O’Connor followed the 41-year-old man along Essex Road to the junction with New North Road.

The thug then grabbed his victim around the neck and punched him in the face several times.

After his quarry fell to the floor, the thief rifled through his pockets, though nothing was stolen

Police spotted the victim collapsed on the floor with O’Connor walking away and later arrested him.

Det Con Marcus Johnson, said: “I am pleased O’Connor has received a substantial custodial sentence for a vicious attack on an innocent man and that he’ll be off the streets for a considerable time.”
