Cyclists got to grips with the new Archway Town Centre layout in a guided ride for World Car-Free Day.

Town hall staff hosted the jaunt on Friday to allow people to familiarise themselves with the new cycle lanes installed during the multi-million-pound redevelopment of the area.

They were also treated to a “bike lovers breakfast” and free cycle checks by Dr Bike.

Town hall transport boss Cllr Claudia Webbe, said: “We’re really proud we can celebrate the closure of what was previously a traffic clogged and fume-filled stretch of road. The council has an important role to play in encouraging people to consider switching to sustainable transport, and projects like the transformation of Archway are a big part of that.”

Alison Dines, co-ordinator of Cycle Islington, said: “Any event which encourages cycling is a good thing, especially if it is aimed at people who don’t usually ride a bike.”
