The death of a woman from a mixture of drugs may remain a mystery after a coroner recorded an open verdict.

Vikki Coulman was found unconscious by her partner Daryl Bridges at the couple’s flat in Stranraer Way, Barnsbury, on January 15 this year.

The mother-of-two was raced to hospital suffering cardiac arrest and despite efforts to save her life, died the following morning.

At the inquest into her death, Poplar Coroner’s Court heard how Miss Coulman, 37, was an alcoholic and also suffering from depression.

She was on a mixture of prescription drugs and was battling alcohol dependency at the time she died.

At the hearing on Wednesday September 25, the court heard how Miss Coulman had visited her GP a number of times prior to her death.

Her grandmother, who she was very close to, had passed away a short while before and she admitted she was struggling to cope with the loss.

Despite her struggles, the court was told that Miss Coulman was working hard to turn her life around and had even discussed training to be a care worker for the elderly.

At the inquest, police said there was nothing to suggest Miss Coulman took her own life or that her death was suspicious.

A post mortem gave “mixed drug toxicity” as cause of death while toxicology reports showed Miss Coulman had a number of prescription and illicit drugs in her system.

Coroner Gail Elliman said there was nothing to suggest Vikki’s death was intentional but without anyone having witnessed her taking any drugs she was recording an open verdict.
