Derelict Holloway pool hall to be grabbed by town hall and turned into housing

A derelict former pool hall is set to be bought by Islington Council and turned into housing – if it gets permission from the Government.
The disused three-storey property in Hornsey Road, Upper Holloway, was last used in 2003 but has been empty for years.
Last year, the council wrote to the owner to tell them to carry out work on the building as its poor condition was affecting the neighbourhood – it also said it was considering a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO).
The town hall’s ruling executive has agreed the order, but now the Secretary of State has to give the plan the go ahead.
Cllr James Murray, Islington Council’s executive member for housing and development, said: “This building has stood empty for many years, and is an eyesore for the nearby area.At the same time Islington has a housing crisis, so we are taking action to compulsorily purchase the building and bring it back into use as badly-need housing.”
