London Metropolitan University is the worst in London according to the Sunday Times.
The university, in Holloway Road, Holloway, is the lowest-placed of the capital’s 21 universities in the paper’s 2011 rankings, which were published on Friday.
Both London South Bank University and the University of West London have leapfrogged the institution after it dropped five places to 122nd in the country.
A spokeswoman for London Met said it is “improving” and has “much to be proud of”. She added: “In April 2011 we were awarded the highest accolade from the Quality Assurance Agency and this summer we were able to shut our clearing operation early following a record amount of applications.”
The university was heavily criticised in April by students, lecturers and Jeremy Corbyn, MP for Islington North, when it announced plans to slash the number of courses by 70 per cent and axe at least 200 jobs.
