The finest imaginary axe-man in the country came to Tufnell Park at the weekend for the 2012 UK Air Guitar Championships.

The 10 virtual guitarists took to the stage in The Dome, above the Boston Arms, in Junction Road on Friday to battle it out for the British crown and the right to represent the country in the world finals in Finland.

Despite a spirited defence from last year’s winner The Bandit, who competed in chain-mail, the judges awarded the crown to Juan Nightstand, a veteran competitor who swept all before him with a glowing codpiece and black rubber catsuit.

Mr Nightstand, 35, real name Jon Morales, said: “It feels great to win. I have been at this for a few years and I have tried to put what the judges have said into practice. This year I tried something different, performing to a dubstep track, and I am pleased to say it worked.

“Now I cannot wait to represent the UK at the world finals. I have no idea how well I’ll do because it’s a whole other level.”
