Canonbury Primary School neighbours protest against new 3G pitch and ‘shouting’ footballers

Fourteen neighbours of Canonbury Primary School have urged the town hall to throw out plans for a new football pitch.
The school, in Canonbury Road, wants to redevelop its existing play area and build a new 3G artificial pitch with floodlights and “ball-stop” netting.
As well as during school hours, the pitch would be available for community use during weekday evenings and weekends.
But 14 tenants and homeowners wrote to Islington Council to complain ahead of its planning sub-committee hearing in the town hall on Tuesday night.
Council documents show they are concerned about the impact of floodlights and “shouting” in the late hours. Some also pointed out that “other sites are available in close proximity”.
Planning officers have recommended councillors to grant permission based on pitch use ending at 8.30pm.
The school itself said the pitch would “provide opportunities for students and the local community to participate in physical activity for health improvement and skill development.”
