Olympic champion dishes out swimming advice to pupils
Olympic champion Duncan Goodhew MBE gave some gold medal advice to youngsters at Archway Leisure Centre on Monday.
The Olympian, who topped the podium in 1980, headed to St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, in Highgate Hill, Archway in the morning before a group of lucky competition winners took to the pool at the MacDonald Road baths for some once-in-a-lifetime tips.
He said: “I was absolutely thrilled to meet the children and teachers at Joseph’s Catholic Primary School. There’s been a lot of talk about competitive school sport in the media, which I was keen to promote to the pupils and teachers. My achievement in the pool is what I’m best known for, so I was thrilled to offer my advice and guidance when the children swapped the school uniform for their swimming goggles at Archway Leisure Centre.”
Angela Noronha, deputy head, said: “It was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to meet an Olympian and receive advice and guidance from such an expert.”
