A young woman who came close to death when she collided with a motorbike wants to find the Good Samaritan who helped save her life.

Anna Murcar, 33, was only given a 10 per cent chance of survival after the accident on the corner of Seven Sisters Road and Finsbury Park Road a year ago this weekend.

She was left fighting for her life in a coma with a skull fracture, brain bleed and a punctured lung following the collision on September 9, 2011.

But before the emergency teams arrived, passer-by Jose Fernandes, who lives in the area, rushed over to make sure she was alright and comforted her. Now Miss Murcar, who works for the BBC, wants to track him down.

She said: “I can’t remember what happened that day, but I’ve been told I was bleeding from my nose and ear, and my eye was very swollen which is a sign of brain bleed.

“They put me in a medically induced coma on the spot and flew me to hospital – I had a punctured lung and internal bleeding, so they sliced me open down the middle and found my kidney was bleeding.

‘Thank you’

“I really want to say thank you to Jose for being the kind of person who looked past all the blood and saw someone that needed help.

“It’s easy to be scared when you see someone screaming and covered in blood but he was very calm.

“I can’t remember what he did, and I don’t know if it will ever come back, but it’s comforting to know there are people like that in the world – it makes me believe in people.”

Miss Murcar was in intensive care for five days and says the Royal London Hospital was “phenomenal”.

After leaving hospital she faced a long period of rehabilitation, but is now fighting fit and was recently able to attend her sister’s wedding.

She said: “The wedding originally got cancelled so my sister could be at my bedside and it was great to be able to go.

“The other person I wanted to contact was the guy who hit me. I tried to send him a Christmas card because he did stop and I feel sorry for him.

“I can just walk away, but he will remember it forever. I would like to say to him: ‘Don’t worry, a year on and I’m all right. I can fly again and I am going to Indonesia scuba diving to celebrate a year of being alive’.”
