The town hall’s budget will be £700,000 lighter thanks to a government move to fund free-school meals in Primary Schools.
Islington Council was one of the first local authorities to provide free meals for its 3,500 primary schoolchildren in 2010, but will no longer foot the bill thanks to a campaign spearheaded by deputy prime minister Nick Clegg.
It is estimated the meals save parents in the borough about £1.4million a year.
