Islington will host a series of gala events throughout February to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender (LGBT) History month.
The calendar features literary, educational and social events and promises to be one of the biggest in the UK.
The programme kicked off on Friday with a re-enactment of the trial of Islington playwright Joe Orton. With partner Kenneth Halliwell, Orton got six months imprisonment for stealing and defacing books from South Library, in Essex Road. Other highlights include art exhibitions, discussions on homophobic and transphobic bullying and a masked ball.
Cllr Catherine West, leader of Islington Council, said: “We are proud to continue our support for the borough’s LGBT community during LGBT History Month.”
