Hugh Myddelton Primary School’s “relentless drive for improvement since the last inspection” has been recognised in an Ofsted progress report.

The report also recognised the “palpable team spirit evident across the whole school,” noting the work being done by the school to improve in key areas. It went on to say how “pupils are making better progress in learning to write as a result of this work.”

The school, in Myddelton Street, Finsbury, was graded “requires improvement” by Ofsted in June last year, based on exam results from the previous year, seeing it ranked as the worst school in Islington.

However, as reported in the Gazette, the appointment of a new headteacher Nathalie Parker at the start of the 2014/15 school year saw standards raised.

SATS results published two weeks after the inspection showed 91 per cent of children achieving Level 4 or higher, placing them fifth out of 125 comparable schools in the country. The government only requires 80pc of children to be at the national average.

The results were the first sign that the school was improving, something which the Ofsted progress report has confirmed.
