Actress Gillian Anderson joined pupils at an Islington primary school yesterday as part of the International Literacy Centre’s (ILC) “read aloud” campaign.
Pupils at William Tyndale Primary School, in Upper Street, read stories to The X-Files actress to show how much their reading skills have improved following the ILC’s “reading recovery” programme.
She said: “Being able to read and enjoy books is such a vital skill for children to acquire and it crucial to their life chances.
“It’s an honour to be able to support and witness first-hand how children, such as those at William Tyndale Primary School, have benefitted from the work done by the International Literacy Centre.
“These children have not just learned to read, they now have the confidence to let their voice be heard.”
