Sixty-eight pupils from nine senior schools in Islington came together last week to receive prestigious Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards at Islington Assembly Hall.
The event saw winners aged 11-25 receive medallions to go with their framed certificate and a cheque for £200, already presented.
The students were nominated by their peers and leaders, with awards for a variety of achievements – both big and small. Two adults were also honoured with Leader Awards for demonstrating an ability to motivate young people.
Winners included 11-year-old Angelica Bailey-Giordano, a sports ambassador for her form at Highbury Fields School. Angelica, who has also played in two national cup football games, spent the grant on a sports hall athletics running board, table tennis balls and shin pads.
Others included Zenari Singh, 15, from Holloway School and Mia Oyesiku, 11, from Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School.
The event was also attended by Deputy Mayor of Islington Cllr Kat Fletcher, who said: “Great celebration of achievement! Well done to all!”
