School children are sky high with joy after being given a new panoramic rooftop playground.

Pupils at the Robert Blair Primary on Brewery Road, Islington, can use the site as an outdoor play area, a garden or even an outdoor classroom. The roof was previously opened to pupils in 2008, but it was unsuitable for classrooms, gardening or outdoor games and the project ceased due to lack of funding.

Head teacher Mark Miller met with Argent Group PLC which is re-developing a neighbouring site in Kings Cross and they along with property Charity’s LandAid and Construction Rocks 2010 were able to help raise 15,000 for the school which has paid for the playground.

Mr Miller said: “Many of our pupils do not have a garden themselves and often do not get the opportunity to explore all that London has to offer but here they have the space to play, learn about growing food sustainably and marvel at the London skyline.”
