AN Islington primary school has been praised by Ofsted for its “outstanding” care, support and guidance of pupils.

Rotherfield School, in Rotherfield Street, Islington, was inspected towards the end of 2010, and was rated “good” overall, with some “outstanding” features.

Ofsted noted the “increasingly good start” children make in nursery and reception classes. They go on to make good progress throughout school and leave Year 6 “well prepared” for secondary school. The report concluded that Rotherfield has “a good platform for sustained further improvement”.

The school’s recently retired headteacher, Elaine Adams, was praised in the report for her “strong belief that all pupils can thrive and learn well if their needs are understood and provided for effectively.”

Acting head, Richard Hunter, said: “Elaine Adams spent more than a decade as headteacher at Rotherfield, guiding the school through four “good” Ofsted inspections. The inspectors clearly noticed her leadership skills and determination for each pupil to succeed to the best of their ability.

“I’m enjoying working with the dedicated staff here in continuing the journey of improvement for Rotherfield School.”
