Children from over 30 Islington schools have shown they have what it takes to become “tech stars” of tomorrow - and also change the world.
At the annual Islington Celebration of Computing event in Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, more than 300 pupils showcased their projects in front of former Tomorrow’s World presenter Maggie Philbin.
Their work included robots, radio stations, micro-computers and a programmable dance mat.
They received guidance from industry experts, before hearing from Maggie in a speech.
She told the pupils: “Tech skills can take you anywhere.
“You might decide to develop new instruments, you might decide to look at how robots operate in many ways around the world, you might look at the ethics of robots.
“I think there are a number of young people in this room who can change the world.”
She added: “The amazing thing is, I cannot even dream about the type of things you will be doing.”
With the Tech City technology hub on the borough’s doorstep in Old Street, the event, held last Wednesday, was designed to excite and possibly inspire pupils to take the leap into the tech industry.
