Pupils at Gillespie Primary School in Highbury decorated eggs themed on the football World Cup and countries of the world to celebrate Easter.

From model stadiums to footballs to the golden trophy itself, classmates showed off their creative skills and battled it out to win best design of their year group.

Head teacher, Mark Owen, said the competition has taken place for the last six years.

“All the children took part from nursery right up to year six,” he said. “We had a secret judge decide the winners and they each received a chocolate egg.

“There were some fantastic entries - the kids really made an effort. Every year they get more elaborate.”
