The festive season steps up a gear on Saturday when TV star Larry Lamb comes to town and turns on the Islington Christmas lights.

Lamb, who has starred in EastEnders, Gavin and Stacey and The Bill in a distinguished television career, will be at the N1 Centre, in Parkfield Street, at 5pm to switch on the illuminations for the shopping centre and nearby Camden Passage and Islington Green. He will announce the winner the charity raffle, who will receive a hamper of luxury goods from local retailers.

The proceeds of the raffle will be donated to the charity Youthnet, who run an online guide for young people called TheSite.org which Mr Lamb is involved with.

Lynne Glover, manager of the N1 centre, said: “The Christmas lights really do add a bit of magic to the festive shopping experience.”
