A shake up in Islington’s corridors of power was finalised this week.

Cllr Rahkia Ismail, only elected as a Holloway councillor last year, will become Islington Council’s executive member for sustainability, while Cllr Joe Calouri, representing Mildmay ward, is the new executive member for children and families.

Cllr Richard Watts, former incumbent of the children and families portfolio, will become executive member for finance and performance.

Cllr Richard Greening, former deputy leader of the council and executive member for finance and performance, and Cllr Paul Smith, former executive member for environment, will lose their seat at the top town hall table.

Women will now make up half of the executive team, and in new deputy leader Cllr Janet Burgess, will have female leader and deputy for the first time.
