The newly-elected young mayor of Islington Council has championed the impact of sport in schools.
Following the latest bout of youth council elections, Honey Baker has been elected to the role, with Abubakar Finiin as her deputy. Isabella Wolday has also been elected as the member for youth parliament for the borough.
The trio – who will hold their posts for one year – will be responsible for representing the youth council at meetings, as well as civic events and awards ceremonies.
Honey, who goes to Arts and Media School, said: “I want to focus my time promoting sport and getting more coaches into schools. Sport is really important for giving young people opportunities.”
Cllr Joe Caluori, the council’s education chief, added: “Young people are the future of Islington, and it is important that we seek their input to help make Islington a fairer place.”
