»The owners of a controversial club allegedly hosting all-night parties without permission could face heavy fines if they continue holding events.

Islington Council has served an enforcement notice on the owners of the Pappeo Club, in Caledonian Road, which means from October 5 they could be fined up to £20,000 if they use the place as a bar or music venue.

The council also issued a second enforcement notice which restricts the owners from opening at any other time than those agreed under the terms of its licence.

Residents and Cllr Paul Convery, Islington Council’s executive member for planning and regeneration, claim it has been operating as a nightclub way beyond 2am, causing concerns over noise and disorders.

A DJ face-off at Pappeo planned on August 12 was cancelled after the police and council threatened the club with a closure order. The council served the enforcement notices days before a similar event on August 26. No-one from Pappeo was available for comment.
