While a blanket of snow brought wintery fun to many families this weekend, the freezing weather has left three schools closed today and ongoing problems on the transport system.

The treacherous road conditions caused some bus routes to be delayed this morning and the Overground line serving stations including Highbury and Islington also experienced problems.

Meanwhile three of the borough’s schools decided to close today – Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Primary in Boadicea Street, Islington, Duncombe Primary in Sussex Way, Archway and Mount Carmel secondary school in Holland Walk, Archway.

Islington Council’s severe weather action plan is in full swing, with some 350 staff – including street sweepers who become gritters in icy weather – working to keep the borough’s roads and pavements as safe as possible.
