From Paddington Bear to Lord Voldemort, primary school pupils celebrated some of the most revered - and feared - fantasy characters from their favourite stories to mark World Book Day on Thursday. The Gazette’s snapper visited five schools in our borough and captured some of the best costumes.

Meanwhile, over at Yerbury Primary School in Upper Holloway, one pupil ensured a glowing parents’ evening report - as she dressed up as one of her teacher’s characters.

Becky Wright, special educational needs co-ordinator at the Foxham Road school, said: “One of our teachers, Val Rutt, is a published author and one of the pupils dressed up as Laura-Beth Lampton, from her book Race for the Lost Keystone.

“They really embraced the day, you could see that from the variety of characters. World Book Day really got their imaginations fired - it was a real celebration of telling and reading stories.”
