Volunteers are encouraging children to love books by giving them one-on-one reading sessions.
Five members of staff from Aquaterra Leisure, the not-for-profit organisation that manages Islington’s public swimming pools and sports facilities, are going into Montem Primary School, Hornsey Road, Holloway – where they read with five Year 4 children.
Nicholas Tait, headteacher at Montem, said: “The children absolutely love reading with the volunteers. It’s a highlight of their week.”
Antony Kildare, chief executive of Aquaterra Leisure, which started the scheme in September, added that he was “extremely proud” that Aquaterra was the “first business organisation in Islington to have launched such a scheme”.
