An Islington teacher was awarded for her work with special needs pupils

Margaret Mountford, a former aide to Lord Sugar in the hit TV show The Apprentice presented a top award to a local teaching hero.

Joanna Ross, of Richard Cloudesely School in Whitecross Street, was announced as Pearson Teaching Award’s silver award winner in the category of special needs teacher of the year 2015, in a ceremony at her school attended by staff and pupils.

Ms Ross was one of 60 teachers who received awards across the UK on national Thank a Teacher day on Friday.

Later in the year, Joanna will join other award winners at the UK final of the Teaching Awards to be held at London’s Royal Opera House, Covent Garden on October 18. The ceremony, titled “Britain’s Classroom Heroes”, will be filmed and broadcast by the BBC as a showcase of excellence in education.
