Camden Passage restaurant and bar The Elk in the Woods has shut after 15 years in Islington.

Known for its rustic appearance, it made no announcement about the closure. The only hint was a tweet on Thursday last week that it’s selling some tables.

But the business has already been replaced – by another food and drink joint.

The second branch of Brother Marcus, a café and cocktail bar, opened today. Like The Elk in the Woods, they also promise all-day food, but with a new Cretan touch to their menu.

“I used to go to The Elk In The Woods for a quiet pint,” Alex Large, one of the three owners of Brother Marcus, told the Gazette. “We’d been looking for another place for ages, and when we saw this was available we decided to open. It’s an amazing location.

“We’re three young guys and I think we can bring a modern twist to the street, respecting what Elk created and taking it further.”
