Inspirational speeches, live music and organic food were enjoyed by those that attended a recent festival in Islington.

The hugely successful Midsummer Renaissance Festival held at the EnlightenNext Centre off Essex Road attracted many guests who listened to talks by leading international speakers on the evolution of culture, politics, women’s issues and the environment.

It was opened by Islington North MP Jeremy Corbyn who also gave a talk about the history of the borough and its radical traditions were in line with cultural events such as the festival, and he was joined by Labour MP for Oldham West and Royton, Michael Meacher, who spoke about his long-term fascination in the origin and evolution of the universe.

The festival culminated in a free outdoor party open onto Essex Road, which was organised by London-based Global Generation which aims to give young people opportunities to create a sustainable future. Party-goers also enjoyed the music of jazz funk band Unfulfilled Desires.

EnlightenNext is a global non-profit organisation based on pairing evolutionary and spiritual values with the concerns facing the world today.
